FAQ

1. HOW DOES THE ID WORK?

The id is constructed of a clear plastic face and a layer of special material that spreads a white light evenly throughout.
Between these two components is a space in which you insert your message, printed or written, on a sheet of transparency film or other material.

When the white light shines through the transparency, your own personal billboard lights up beautifully.

When you want to change your graphic, the transparency is easy to remove.

2. HOW CAN I WEAR OR DISPLAY THE ID?

The-id on a collar

You can attach the lanyard to either the little hole at the image insertion point or through the two small holes on the top of the unit.

The id can also be attached to your clothing by removing the silver metal plate and putting it behind your clothing and placing the id against it.

The silver metal plate attached to the magnets can be removed and inserted into the slot below the magnets. The id is now a place card or display sign.

3. HOW IS THE LIGHT GENERATED?

The white LEDs are powered by a powerful, USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery for long lasting brightness.

4. HOW DO I GET MY MESSAGE ONTO THE TRANSPARENCY?

You can write on the transparencies with a marker, but please make sure the ink is dry before you put it in the id.

You can also use your computer to design your own graphic and, using our template, print it out on your printer.

It’s important, before you print, that you consult your printer or photocopier’s instruction manual for more information on printing on transparencies.

Please allow plenty of time for the ink to dry before inserting the image into the id. On our site are templates that you can download and use.

5. WHERE CAN I GET IMAGES AND IDEAS?

Possibilities are endless here. You can use a few simple words, a graphic design or logo, photographic images or just doodle.

If you are looking for graphics, the internet is perfect for finding just about any image you want. Just remember that some images may have copyright issues. So, please be careful.

6. TELL ME ABOUT THE BATTERIES

The newest version of the id makes life even simpler. With no more batteries to replace, the id is powered by a Lithium Polymer, rechargeable battery. ( MSDS )

This means that you can charge your id badge by using a USB cable connected to your computer, a USB power outlet or even to your cell phone charger. The id comes with a USB cable with micro USB connection in case you do not have a cable OR you use an Apple iPhone which has a proprietary connector.

If you have an iPhone, simple change the Apple cable for the enclosed USB cable to the wall charger. If you have an android device, you can use that charger cable directly.

A single charge takes about 1-2 hours and will keep your id badge well lit for at least 12 hours…. plenty of time to show your brilliance!

8. WHAT MATERIALS DO I USE FOR PRINTING?

Transparencies are available at most office supply stores. Transparency sheets are the best material to use. You need to consider what kind of printer you are using when buying transparency sheets. If you have an inkjet printer look for sheets that are made for Inkjets. If you have a laser printer look for sheets made for Laser printers. In some stores you may find sheets that will work for both laser and inkjet printers.
Transparencies allow the images to have a strong presence and bold colors.

You can also use Vellum or even plain paper. The images will not be as intense but still very serviceable.
Note: check the instructions to see if the sheets can be printed on both sides or just one side. This is important as should you print on a non-prepared side, the ink will run off. Yuk!

9. MAKING INSERTS AND PRINTING TIPS?

Here are some things to consider:
a) You can use either a vertical or horizontal image as the id can be oriented in either direction.
b) The insert has a window that is 67 mm wide by 47 mm high. That is the actual size for your images. The actual insert is a little wider as there is a section that extends beyond the window to allow for insertion and removal.
c) The templates are available in Excel, Word and Illustrator formats. Please download and use whichever template with which you are comfortable.
d) It is always best to print an entire sheet, but what if you do not need an entire sheet? You can safely print half a sheet, make a clean cut and use the second half later on. Anything less than half a sheet gets a bit dicey to use.
e) Check your printer specifications. There is always a “setup” that needs to be made to adjust for the material you are using. Your printer needs to be instructed as to what kind of material you have selected to use.

10. WHICH POWER MODE SHOULD I USE?

You have 2 choices: blinking or full on light. Blinking is attention getting and used under the right circumstances is pretty cool. Under the wrong circumstances it can be obnoxious.

If you want to grab someone’s attention, blinking is great. If you want to hold their attention, a full light is better. As a name badge, you will want a full light so you name can be read.
